Anyone in real estate will tell you that the three most important things about a house are location, location, location. And, for the DeJesus family, the location of their home couldn’t have been better—a quiet, tree-lined neighborhood near the Virginia Beach waterfront. It was almost perfect, but like many families, the DeJesuses had run out of space. With such a prime location, they didn’t want to move, and that meant enlarging the house. There was no room to expand the house into the yard—homes near the beach are notorious for having small lots, and the DeJesuses’ house was no exception—nor did they want to give up the yard they had. The only option, then, was to expand up. Working together with the family’s architect, Hylton Builders, Inc. added a second story to the house, giving the family a new master bedroom, master bath, and upstairs laundry room. The outside of the house was redone as well, creating a look that was in harmony with the house’s beach environment. Best of all, Hylton Builders, Inc. worked with the family during the renovation to ensure that they lived comfortably in the house while work progressed. In the end, the DeJesuses ended up with a functional, charming house—without a hefty hotel bill to go with it.
